The rock ‘n’ roll legend David Crosby was hit with tons of backlash over the weekend when he responded to the death of Eddie Van Halen with a flippant “meh.” Now, Crosby is speaking out to apologize for what he said.

The backlash began on Saturday, when Crosby responded to a fan asking about Van Halen’s music prowess by simply saying “meh.” Fans were outraged by this, as Van Halen had died of cancer just four days before.

Crosby only dug his hole deeper from there, writing that “Hendrix changed the world of guitar” and that Van Halen was “not for me.”

After many fans blasted Crosby, saying that his response was “disrespectful” and “lacking empathy,” he finally apologized on Tuesday afternoon.

“Yes you Van Halen fans I did just toss off an answer that was not cool …the even more embarrassing truth is ..I didn’t even remember he had just died or I would have kept my mouth shut….I do make mistakes …no offense intended,” he wrote.

Crosby went on to retweet a fan who wrote, “I’m a Van Halen fan for sure, but I can also understand your ‘meh’ response to mean that he wasn’t your cup of tea, but you didn’t mean to disrespect a recently deceased person.”

“Exactly,” Crosby added.

Some fans appeared to accept Crosby’s apology and explanation for what happened.

“I was going to jump on here and send you a message about being respectful of those artists who pass away,” one fan tweeted. “But this tweet is pitch perfect. We do all make mistakes and we need more forgiveness in this world.”

“Good move, David. Thanks for this tweet,” added Steve Silberman, author of “NeuroTribes: The Legacy of Autism.”

Van Halen was first diagnosed with tongue cancer in 2000, and he managed to beat it by 2002. In 2019, however, it was revealed that Van Halen had secretly been battling throat cancer for five years. Sources said that his health went downhill fast in his final 72 hours, with doctors finding that his cancer had moved to his brain as well as other organs. He died on October 6, surrounded by his family.
