Last week, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle signed a deal with Netflix that is said to be worth as much as $150 million. On Wednesday, the streaming service’s co-CEO Reed Hastings spoke out to reveal why he thinks they made the right decision in doing this.

The Independent reported that Hastings said that he is “so excited” about the deal with Harry and Meghan.

“It’s gonna be epic entertainment – so excited about that deal,” he said, going on to praise the royals for being “smart” by not taking the first deal that came their way.

“They’re smart – they were shopping it around across all of the major companies, and I think we really put together the best complete package, and we’re going to do a wide range of entertainment with them,” Hastings said.

He went on to add that he believes that Harry and Meghan will produce “some of the most exciting, most viewed content next year.”

Prior to marrying Harry, Meghan was a Hollywood actress who rose to fame starring on the show “Suits.” Despite this, Hastings said that the public should not expect to see her acting in front of the camera for Netflix, as she will instead be focused on producing with her husband.

“The real focus for them is on being producers and on building a production capacity, so that’s the key thing,” he explained. “They’ve developed a great eye for story, and we’ll be working with them on that basis.”

When Harry and Meghan announced their deal with Netflix, they said they would be “creating content that informs but also gives hope”.

“Our lives, both independent of each other, and as a couple have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection,” they said in a statement. “Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope.”

“As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us, as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens,” Harry and Meghan added.
