Over the past few weeks, dozens of current and former employees have come forward to accuse Ellen DeGeneres of turning a blind eye to racism, intimidation, and sexual misconduct on the set of her talk show. Now, it’s been revealed that DeGeneres once humiliated Meghan Markle with a brutal joke on her show.

The Express reported that DeGeneres and Meghan first became friends back in 2012, when they had an encounter in a pet shelter that resulted in Meghan taking home Bogart, a Labrador-shepherd mix. DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi spotted Meghan and said, “You’re taking the dog home!”

“She walks outside to get into her car but instead of getting in, she turns around and comes and taps on the window glass,” Meghan recalled. “She yells ‘Take the dog!’ And so I brought him home. Because Ellen told me to.”

Years later, DeGeneres voiced her opinion when Meghan became engaged to Prince Harry in 2017. During a segment on her talk show, DeGeneres joked that her family was “about to get a little bigger.”

“Kate Middleton is my 15th cousin, so that makes Prince Harry’s fiancée my other cousin,” the host said.

DeGeneres then revealed that Meghan previously appeared on the game show “Deal Or No Deal” as the “holder for Case 24,” and proceeded to make a brutal joke.

“Which means if Harry had picked the other model, he could’ve gotten a million dollars!” DeGeneres quipped.

DeGeneres then discussed her excitement about Meghan, a US citizen, marrying into British royalty when she said, “We finally got somebody on the inside, you guys!”

She then talked about meeting Meghan years before at the pet shelter.

“She adopted a dog, ‘cause I told her to…’ I don’t even remember the story, but she does, and obviously she does whatever I tell her to do!” DeGeneres said.

She continued her joke by revealing her demands for the royal wedding.

“So, Meghan, if you’re watching, I have something else to tell you. Invite me to that wedding,” DeGeneres said. “And instead of plus-one, I want plus-400. I want all these people to come, too”

Despite her plea, DeGeneres did not receive an invitation to the wedding.
