Over the many decades that country music legend Dolly Parton has been famous, there have been rumors that she has sleeve tattoos because she always covers her arms up with clothing. While the gossip has never gone away, the 74 year-old singer has never denied that she really does have tattoos.

“I do have some tattoos, that’s true,” Parton told PEOPLE magazine. “But they’re tasteful. I’m not a tattoo girl.”

“My tattoos are pretty, they’re artful and they usually started out to cover some scar, not to make a big statement.” she added. “Ribbons and bows and butterflies are the things that I have.”

Parton went on to explain why she decided to get tattoos.

“I was very sick for a while and I had to wear a feeding tube,” she said. “It left a little indention in my side and I didn’t like it because I’m so fair that scars turn purple on me.”

However, Parton found that the scarring was a chance to make something beautiful out of something negative.

“I had a little beehive tattooed over it — a little yellow-and-brown beehive with a tiny little bee on top of the hive, she explained. “The mouth of it is that little sinkhole.”

Parton was also asked if she has the name of her longtime husband Carl Dean tattooed on her body anywhere.

“No, he’s tattooed on my heart,” she said.

Though Parton is now in her 70s, she’s open to getting more tattoos.

“I may just have to get covered with tattoos just so everybody could be right!” she said.

Fox News reported that back in 2014, Parton said that fans thought the reason that she wore sleeves all the time was because she has “snake tattoos all over.”

“I’m not really one to have tattoos, but I do have a few and they’re not where you can see them,” she said.

Three years before that, Roseanne Barr revealed Parton’s tattoo secret in a late night interview.

“Do you know who’s totally tattooed? I shouldn’t even tell this. Dolly Parton is totally tattooed,” she said. “She showed me. She’s got all these awesome tattoos all over her body — no black or blue lines, all like, pastel gorgeous bows all over everything.”
