Over the past few weeks, the divorce of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie has escalated as the actress has been trying to get the judge presiding over their case removed. Last week, Pitt surprised many by taking his new 27 year-old girlfriend Nicole Poturalski to the spot where he married Jolie almost exactly six years ago.

Now, sources are saying that Pitt “doesn’t care” if this move upset Jolie, and that he expects her to “lash out.”

Pitt brought Poturalski, who is in an open marriage with a 68 year-old man, to Chateau Miraval in the south of France last week. He had married Jolie there six years earlier, on August 23, 2014.

“Taking Nicole to Miraval on their former wedding anniversary, Brad knows exactly what he is doing and the reaction it’s going to get from Angelina,” a source told US Weekly. “He just doesn’t care if Angelina is going to lash out. He expects she will.”

Pitt and Jolie began dating in 2004, while filming the movie Mr. And Mrs. Smith together. They married ten years later before finally splitting up in 2016, and a nasty divorce has been going in the four years since then. Though they were made legally single in 2019, Pitt and Jolie have continued a bitter custody battle their six kids: Maddox, 19, Pax, 16, Zahara, 15, Shiloh, 14, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 12.

“Brad has done everything he could in his power to avoid this moment,” the insider said of the possibility of them heading to trial. “Angelina hasn’t in Brad’s perspective.”

Last month, Jolie filed court documents calling for Judge John W. Ouderkirk to be dismissed from their case, claiming that he failed to disclose a working relationship with one of Pitt’s attorneys.

“All my client is asking for is a fair trial based on facts, with no special favors extended to either side,” said Jolie’s lawyer, Samantha Bley DeJean. “The only way litigants can trust the process is for everyone involved to ensure that there’s transparency and impartiality.”

Pitt’s legal team has fired back by arguing that Jolie was aware of the connections and “never objected” to Ouderkirk’s “continued involvement” until now. They accused the actress of making a “transparently tactical gambit” to delay proceedings and said ultimately it will hurt their children more than anyone.

“Unfortunately, the individuals hurt most by Jolie’s transparently tactical gambit are the parties’ own children, who continue to be deprived of a final resolution to these custody issues,” Pitt’s lawyers said.
