The television personality and producer Simon Cowell was reportedly rushed to the hospital on Saturday after he broke his back while riding an electric bicycle in California.

A spokesperson for Cowell told PEOPLE Magazine that the “America’s Got Talent” judge is expected to undergo surgery.

“Simon had a fall from his bike on Saturday afternoon whilst testing his new electric bike in the courtyard at his house in Malibu with his family,” the spokesperson said. “He hurt his back and was taken to the hospital. He’s doing fine, he’s under observation and is in the best possible hands.”

Cowell, 60, had been scheduled to resume shooting of “America’s Got Talent” on Tuesday after a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He is also known for being a judge on “American Idol,” “Britain’s Got Talent,” “The X Factor.”

Back in May, Cowell said he had been enjoying spending quarantine at home with his young son.

“We definitely have more family time together now. We watch movies in the evening, play together, read books, comics, everything,” he said at the time. “And the father of one also shared his exercise routine. “Cycle, walk, swim, push-ups. I haven’t cheated on my diet. I feel really healthy at the moment.”

That same month, he offered advice to fans as to how they can get through quarantine.

“Most importantly, occupy your mind,” Cowell told Extra. “You have to stick to a routine. Fortunately, with things like with Zoom, you stay in touch with the world, keep motivated, come up with ideas… I never get this time, normally.”

“I’m doing a bit of cooking, I’m exercising. Funny enough, more during this time as well, sticking to the diet,” he added, referring to his own quarantine routine. “The only difficult thing is when Eric orders a pizza… That’s the number one thing I miss.”

While he misses pizza, Cowell’s diet has been paying off for him in a big way.

“I think I have dropped, since I started this diet a year ago, 60 pounds,” he said.

Cowell was excited at the time to welcome actress Sofia Vergara to the judging panel of “America’s Got Talent” this season.

“She was amazing,” he gushed. “After 10 minutes, literally, in the first day, she turned to me and said, ‘Simon, this is the best job I ever had.’ She was very good with the contestants, very focused. You kind of feel she has been on the show for a long time.”
