Over the weekend, we reported that the “America’s Got Talent” judge Simon Cowell had broken this back in an electric bike crash. Now, an update has come in about his health that will certainly come as a relief to his many fans.

“He’s doing well, in good spirits and walking around a little more in his room,” a friend of Cowell’s said of the television producer and personality, according to Page Six.

“He’s been doing more work and this morning was playing jokes on [girlfriend] Lauren [Silverman] and some of his friends,” the source continued, adding that the 60 year-old Cowell is “just being silly, joking around.”

“He knows he had a lucky escape and is very grateful for that and the medical teams, who have been incredible,” the friend explained.

Following the accident, which occurred at Cowell’s home in Malibu, he had to have a metal rod inserted in his back during a six-hour surgery. He broke his back in three places, and was within an inch of cutting his spine and facing possible paralysis.

This comes after Cowell’s ex-girlfriend Terri Seymour told “Extra” exactly what happened with this accident.

“On Saturday afternoon, Simon was in the courtyard of his Malibu home with Eric and Adam, and he wanted to show them his new electric bike,” she explained, referring to Cowell’s son and stepson.

“It’s very fast and very powerful,” Seymour added of the bike, which cost over $20,000. “I don’t think he realized how powerful it was, and he flew off the bike, landed on his back.”

On Sunday night, Cowell showed that his sense of humor was very much intact when he took to Twitter to address the situation.

“Some good advice… If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time,” he tweeted. “I have broken part of my back. Thank you to everyone for your kind messages.”

Seymour confirmed that the break ”was 1 centimeter away from from his spinal cord, that is true.”

“It’s bad, and he is in agony. [But] it could have been so much so much worse,” she added. “He is going to need a lot of physical therapy.”

While Seymour said that Cowell will not be resuming filming of live “America’s Got Talent” shows on Tuesday night, she made sure to add that “you never rule anything out with Simon.”

“Recovery is going to be a long road ahead. He’s so determined,” she concluded. “He’s so upset to miss these live shows. It’s his baby — of course he wants to be there. Let’s just wait and see.”
