Last month, we reported that Ellen DeGeneres’ $27 million mansion in Montecito, California had been burglarized while she was at home with her wife, actress Portia de Rossi. Now, police are reportedly saying that the robbery was an “inside job.”

The Montecito Association just sent out a newsletter hinting that the local sheriff told the executive director that the crime was an “inside job” and that the community did not need to worry about similar burglaries.

“If it had been a case of outsiders coming in and breaking and entering, I’d have alerted you to be on the lookout and lock up everything,” read the August 12 newsletter, which was obtained by The Sun. “According to our very helpful Sheriff Lt Arnoldi, that appears to be an inside job.”

The newsletter went on to say that the local residents “had to deal with people coming into the area, casing our properties, and breaking and entering.”

“We’ve gotten far more vigilant about this, and now we question strange vehicles on our streets, camping at our trails, and other incursions that may not be good for the community,” the newsletter stated.

This could not have come at a worse time for DeGeneres, as she has just been accused by dozens of current and former employees of turning a blind eye to racism, intimidation, and sexual misconduct on the set of her talk show. The backlash got to be so great that a source with Telepictures came forward to claim that DeGeneres had had enough and was ready to quit.

“She feels she can’t go on and the only way to recover her personal brand from this is to shut down the show,” the source told Daily Mail. “The truth is she knew what was going on, it’s her show. The buck stops with her. She can blame every executive under the sun – but Ellen is ultimately the one to blame.”

“Inside Telepictures we’ve had enough of her. She is a phony who does not practice what she preaches,” the source added. “The behavior of her show executives has been appalling, but [Ellen] is no better. In fact, she is the worst. It’s outrageous that she is trying to pretend that this is all a shock to her. The fish rots from the head, and Ellen is the head.”

It remains to be seen whether DeGeneres’ brand, which revolves around telling people to “be kind” to one another at the end of every show, can ever recover from this.
