Earlier this summer, rumors swirled that Meghan Markle had “dumped” her former best friend Jessica Mulroney after the Canadian stylist became embroiled in a nasty “white privilege” scandal. Now, after returning to Instagram for the first time since the scandal broke this week, Mulroney is finally addressing the claims that her friendship with Meghan is over.
Daily Mail reported that Mulroney took a two month break from Instagram to “reflect, learn, and listen” after she was accused of “threatening” black social media influencer Sasha Exeter. Mulroney made her return to Instagram on Thursday to post a video showing her 10 year-old twin sons celebrating their 10th birthday, praising the siblings for “giving her the will to live and work when everything fell apart.
“Happy 10th to my twin babies,” she captioned the video. “My incredible family has had to witness their mom in the worst state. These two boys have not left my side and gave me the will to live and work hard when everything fell apart. They deserve the best birthday. Only up from here.”
Within minutes of posting the video, however, things went downhill as Mulroney began responding to comments from users who were making negative remarks about her alleged fallout with Meghan, who was rumored to have cut ties with the stylist after her scandal.
When one user asked if Mulroney was feeling “down” after being “dumped” by Meghan, she fired back by claiming that the rumors were “fake news” and by begging the trolls to “just stop.”
However, this directly contradicts what sources close to Meghan have been saying since Mulroney was accused of using her white privilege to threaten Exeter.
“Meghan said friends reflect friends and because of what’s at stake she can no longer be associated with Jessica, at least not in public,” one source said. “She has to do what she has to do in order to preserve her dignity and her own reputation.”
Another insider said that Mulroney was so desperate that she was “calling Meghan non-stop” trying to work things out.
“Jessica has been calling Meghan non-stop and also calling up mutual friends to try and patch up their friendship,” a source said. “She’s devastated Meghan has turned her back on her at a time when she needs her most. But their friends have told her not to expect to hear back from Meghan because when she cuts someone off, she’s done for good – just like with her family.”
