Earlier this week, we reported that Hollywood star Angelina Jolie had requested that the judge be removed in her divorce battle against her fellow actor Brad Pitt. Now, Pitt is firing back through his attorneys to slam Jolie for what she is doing.

In legal documents obtained by People magazine, Pitt’s lawyers accused Jolie of making a “transparently tactical gambit” to delay proceedings, adding that it will ultimately hurt their children the most.

“Unfortunately, the individuals hurt most by Jolie’s transparently tactical gambit are the parties’ own children, who continue to be deprived of a final resolution to these custody issues,” it read.

The legal papers went on to describe what was happening as “a thinly-veiled attempt by Jolie to delay the adjudication of long-pending custody issues in this case.”

This came after Jolie filed paperwork asking that Judge John W. Ouderkirk, a private judge, be taken off the case, claiming that he was too late and not forthcoming enough about other cases he was hired for involving Pitt attorney Anne C. Kiley. She claimed that during her divorce proceedings, Ouderkirk has “failed to disclose the cases that demonstrated the current, ongoing, repeat-customer relationship between the judge and Respondent’s counsel.”

Jolie went on to allege that Pitt’s lawyer “actively advocated for Judge Ouderkirk’s financial interests in moving — over the opposing party’s opposition — to have his appointment (and his ability to continue to receive fees) extended in a high profile case.”

After Pitt’s response, Jolie fired back at him through her lawyer.

“It is unfortunate that Mr. Pitt’s team has sought to intervene ahead of Judge Ouderkirk’s response. One can only conclude that this is an attempt to obstruct or influence Judge Ouderkirk’s answer. Any delay in these proceedings is due to their zealous attempt to create an unrecognized special exception for their client’s benefit,” Jolie’s lawyer Samantha Bley DeJean said.

However, a source close to Pitt said, “This is the Judge who married them, someone who her team knew well and who her team actually introduced to the couple. Her lawyers have also worked with him, so the only excuse for their filing is that her team knew they were likely to lose and they needed to stall by changing the referee in the fourth quarter.”

Pitt and Jolie share six children together: sons Maddox, 18, Pax, 16, and Knox, 12, and daughters Zahara, 15, Shiloh, 14, and Vivienne, 12. Jolie filed for divorce from him in 2016, and the proceedings have been ongoing ever since.
