A-list couple Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are in hot water this week for using their “privilege” as celebrities to skip the mandatory 14-day quarantine that the Australian government has put in place amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

Fox News reported that the order states that anyone who enters Australia must then quarantine in a hotel room for fourteen days. Kidman and Urban reportedly flew to Australia in a private jet with their two daughters over the weekend, and they were at their luxury Southern Highlands estate just a few hours later, making it clear that they were not quarantining in a hotel.

“Under the Public Health Order by the Minister for Health and Medical Research, all people returning from overseas must quarantine in a designated quarantine facility, such as a hotel,” explains the New South Wales Government website. “Exemptions are rare due to the high risk of not quarantining. They are only considered where there are strong medical, health or compassionate grounds.”

It has since been revealed that Kidman, 53, and Urban, 52, were given special permission to return to their estate amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. A rep for Urban explained why they got special permission by citing information released by Screen NSW, an agency that supports the arts in New South Wales, about Kidman’s upcoming project.

“Executive producer Kidman and her core team have been authorized to establish an isolated production hub under full police-supervised quarantine at her Southern Highlands property to allow pre-production to continue remotely through quarantine—similar to arrangements made by governments to support football clubs to train and prepare for matches. There will be no cost to the taxpayer,” the press release circulated by Urban’s rep stated.

However, this has done nothing to stop fans from expressing their fury at this famous couple getting special treatment during this pandemic.

“Very disappointed in @NicoleKidman and @KeithUrban not going into quarantine like the rest of the people coming from overseas. The rich and privileged getting away with it again,” one social media user commented, with another adding, “One law for the rich and powerful and the rest ….well just buckle down!”

Others, however, defended Kidman and Urban.

“Anyone can apply for the exemption from hotel quarantine if they can provide evidence of being able to self isolate. Try to gain more information before critizing [sic] someone,” one fan wrote. Another then commented, “I can’t wait to see Nicole Kidman’s Perfect Strangers movie filming in Australia now. The book was great. @KeithUrban glad you can be home to see your families there.”

This comes weeks before Kidman is scheduled to begin filming her new television series “Nine Perfect Strangers,” which is expected to bring in $100 million into the Australian film industry and give several jobs to local artists. Kidman is reportedly paying for any medical expenses for members of the crew who need to quarantine before filming can begin.
