Like millions of other people around the world, Hollywood star Jennifer Garner feels a lot of emotions when it comes to this year. On Tuesday, Garner struggled to hold back tears as she reflected on her own family’s experiences in 2020.

Over the past few weeks, Garner has been hosting meditation sessions on Instagram with Dr. Chelsea Jackson Roberts. During their session on Tuesday, the two women were talking about the concept of tapas within yoga, and the release of tension and energies that have built up over time, when Garner became emotional.

“This whole world is going through that in every possible way,” Garner said, referring to the COVID-19 pandemic and the racial tensions that have built up in the past few months. She added that in regards to the coronavirus pandemic, she feels “so lucky.”

“I’ve been in the luckiest possible circumstance,” she said. “I have a roof, I have food, I have health and so does my family. I have no complaints.”

The former “Alias” star went on to say that the main thing that occupies her mind is “thinking about [her] kids and what their experience is going to be.” Garner is the mother of three children with her ex-husband Ben Affleck: Violet, 14, Seraphina, 11, and Samuel, 8.

“What is this year full of transitions gonna look like for kids, for my family?” she said as she fought back tears. “How can I keep joy in learning for them, or help them just continue to find their resilience? I think that’s where I am today.”

The tears really started flowing when Roberts thanked Garner for being so open with her innermost thoughts. She added that Garner’s kids will see her “taking care of” herself throughout all the stresses of 2020.

“I think it’s easy to also focus on how lucky you are, and that is true. And I do and I am,” Garner said. “But you have to also let the other stuff be there at the same time, it has to coexist.”

“It is heavy, it’s heavy for everyone,” she concluded. “How do kids in this world not just live in all this heaviness?”
