It has just sadly been revealed that Benjamin Keough, the grandson of the legendary Elvis Presley and the son of Lisa Marie Presley, killed himself over the weekend at the age of 27.

A representative for Lisa Marie confirmed her son’s death to Fox News in a brief statement.

“She is completely heartbroken, inconsolable and beyond devastated but trying to stay strong for her 11-year-old twins and her oldest daughter Riley,” the statement said. “She adored that boy. He was the love of her life.”

Police told TMZ that Keough committed suicide at his home in Calabasas, California on Sunday, passing away from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Keough was the son of Lisa Marie, 52, and musician Danny Keough, and he was also grandson to Elvis and Priscilla Presley. In. addition, Keough is the younger brother of Riley Keough, who has launched a successful career in Hollywood with roles in movies like Mad Max: Fury Road.

Though he kept a low profile compared to other members of his family, he was known for the uncanny resemblance he had to his famous grandfather.

“Ben does look so much like Elvis. He was at the Opry and was the quiet storm behind the stage,” Lisa Marie once said. “Everybody turned around and looked when he was over there. Everybody was grabbing him for a photo because it is just uncanny.”

Back in 2009, Keough signed a $5 million record deal, although it does not appear that he continued a career in music. Lisa Marie was known to have an especially close bond with her son, with the two of them even getting a matching tattoo back in 2009. She later explained to fans that the tattoo was “a Celtic eternity knot” that represents “eternal love and connection.”

Back in 2013, Lisa Marie told the Huffington Post that she was letting her son do “his own thing.”

“He’s doing his own thing right now,” she said. “I’m going to let him decide when he wants to go out and do what he wants to do.”

Lisa Marie is also the mother to 11 year-old twins Finley and Harper Lockwood, 11, who she had with her ex-husband Michael Lockwood. Please keep their family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
