Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood is reportedly suing CBD retailers, which sell marijuana legally, for deceptively using his name in advertising their products.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Eastwood is claiming that various CBD retailers are trying to boost their sales by using fake interviews with him in which he seems to praise their marijuana merchandise. The documents go on to say that Eastwood has never spoken with these companies, and that he would not endorse their products.

Eastwood, 90, is claiming in his lawsuit that retailers are using his name to garner more consumers through Google searches.

“The CBD products advertised and sold at the CBD Online marketplace based upon a Google search for ‘Mr. Eastwood CBD’ include Natural Stress Solutions, Farmacy Bliss, CBD Greenlab, Terahemp, Creating Better Days, and PhenoPen,” the federal lawsuit states. “By using Mr. Eastwood’s name in hidden metatags, Defendants have figuratively posted a sign with Mr. Eastwood’s trademark in front of their online store to attract consumers and caused the consuming public to believe that Mr. Eastwood is associated with and/or endorsed the CBD Online marketplace Defendants’ CBD products, when no such association actually exists.”

The veteran actor and director is reportedly seeking “an award of actual and compensatory damages in the millions of dollars,” as well as more in profits.

“For more than 60 years, Clint Eastwood has been one of the most famous actors, producers, and directors in the world. Mr. Eastwood is fiercely protective of his name and image, and has rarely licensed either for the promotion of products outside of the movies he acted in or directed,” the lawsuit adds. “Like many of his most famous characters, Mr. Eastwood is not afraid to confront wrongdoing and hold accountable those that try to illegally profit off his name.”

The New York Post reported that in one of the fake interviews, Eastwood appeared to claim that he had left Hollywood to sell CBD products because it offered him “something bigger than movies.”

“This was a really, really difficult decision for me,” he was quoted as saying.

Eastwood, however, claims that this interview never happened.

“Mr. Eastwood has no connection of any kind whatsoever to any CBD products and never gave such an interview,” the lawsuit states.

Eastwood doubled down on this lawsuit in a brief statement released through a representative who said, “It’s no different than putting a billboard in front of a CBD shop with a picture of Mr. Eastwood and saying that the shop sells ‘Clint Eastwood CBD products,’ in order to entice customers into its store, only to sell them different products that have nothing to do with Mr. Eastwood.”
