A 5 year-old boy from Missouri is warming the hearts of Americans everywhere after he used a lemonade stand to raise over $3,000 for an injured firefighter who was injured in a shooting at a local Applebee’s restaurant last week.

Fox 2 Now reported that Kinloch Fire Protection District firefighter Arlydia Bufford was eating at the establishment with her best friend Kimberly Ratliffe-Penton when a random gunman stormed in and opened fire.

Ratliffe-Penton was tragically killed in the shooting, while Bufford and another woman were injured.

Bufford, 20, remains in critical but stable conditions after having to undergo several shootings in the days since the shooting, which took place on June 22.

When Cooper Wallweber, 5, and his big sister Olivia Boyer heard what had happened to Bufford, they knew immediately that they had to do something to help her.

“We were watching the news and we were just so touched by her story… and felt that we need to do it for Arlydia,” Olivia said in an interview with Fox & Friends.

“She got shot really bad and was in the hospital,” Cooper added.

The brother and sister duo immediately got to work, setting up a roadside lemonade stand in St. Peter’s.

They had planned to only stay open for two hours, but their venture was such a massive success that they stayed open for six instead!

“It was like we were a drive-thru service,” Olivia said.

“It was non-stop.”

“We had six officers come out, two ambulances, two fire trucks, another truck as we were leaving,” she added, according to KMOV.

One woman even donated $100 without buying any lemonade, as she was so touched by the cause the siblings were raising money for.

“I broke down and cried,” Olivia said. “I didn’t know how to feel. I was just stunned. I expected maybe $100-$200 and we ended up with over $1,000.”

So far, Olivia and Cooper have raised over $3,000 for Bufford. Kinloch Fire Protection District Chief Kevin J. Stewart spoke out to say how touched the entire fire department was by what the brother and sister have done.

“I got word that there was a little boy out in St. Charles County that set up a lemonade stand to raise money for Arlydia. That is so amazing, that touched my heart,” Stewart said.

“Of course we are all heartbroken by what has happened but to see such a young boy make this conscientious decision, on his own, and decide to do this for our firefighters…” he added.

“I think we can all take a lesson from this, especially with what’s going on in the world.”
