Queen Elizabeth Pays Touching Tribute to the Military – ‘I Know the Pride Service Personnel Take in Their Duty’

Queen Elizabeth just celebrated Armed Forces Day in the United Kingdom by paying a touching tribute to members of the military.

Fox News reported that the 94 year-old monarch released a statement on the behalf of both her and her husband Prince Philip to mark the occasion.

“The Duke of Edinburgh and I join many around the United Kingdom in celebrating Armed Forces Day, and the efforts of our military both at home and overseas,” the Queen said. “Today provides an opportunity for thanks, and a recognition of the dedication and risks faced by those serving our nation.”

“We also have cause to thank veterans, who continue to contribute to our way of life, long after they leave the Armed Forces,” she continued.

The Queen went on to thank members of her own family who have served in the military.

“Having had members of my family serve in each of the Armed Services, I know only too well of the pride Service personnel take in their duty,” she said. “As your Commander-in-Chief, I send my warmest best wishes to you all, your families, and the entire Armed Forces community.”

Philip is one of the royals who is a veteran, as the 99 year-old is a former naval officer who joined the Royal Navy as a cadet before the start of World War II. The Queen’s son Prince Charles also served in the Royal Navy, while her grandsons Prince William and Prince Harry served in the Royal Air Force and in the Army, respectively.

The Queen has spent the past few months in quarantine at Windsor Castle amidst the coronavirus pandemic, addressing the public a few times along the way. A source close to her said that even during this difficult time, the Queen has still managed to find joy in simple things in quarantine.

“She loves to be out walking her dogs and is still riding,” the insider said, with others adding that she is determined to make the most of her time in isolation by spending time with her husband.

“One of the nicest things for the queen is that she is getting to spend more time with her husband than she usually would,” a friend of the monarch’s told Vanity Fair. “They have dinner together in the evenings and I imagine the queen is of the generation where she dresses for dinner. She is riding out every day and is making the most of this time.”
