Americans everywhere have been horrified over the past few days as a video has gone viral showing a man in New York City punching a 92 year-old woman in the head and shoving her to the ground in what appeared to be a random attack. Now, the man has thankfully been apprehended by authorities.

Fox News reported that the incident occurred on Friday afternoon in Manhattan, and video shows the elderly woman traveling one way on the suspect while the suspect walks towards her on the other. As the suspect walks directly past the woman, he seems to strike her in the head with his hand, causing her to fall to the ground.

Undeterred by the injured woman, the suspect continues walking and can be seen looking back at her laying on the ground as he steps out of the frame.

The suspect has since been identified as 31-year-old Rashid Brimmage, who has since been arrested.

The 92 year-old woman, a retired teacher who did not want to be released, hit her head on a fire hydrant as she fell to the ground. She told ABC7 that she has been left extremely shaken by the incident.

“I’m frightened to tears,” she said. “I’m not going to walk there on my own, and it’s very upsetting. It’s very upsetting.”

She went on to say that she didn’t know what was happening when she first got hit.

“I thought it was a brick or something like that,” she said. “Hit me on the right scalp, on the right side of my head, and of course I fell down on the street. There were a couple of young women there. They helped me up. They said, ‘I’m going to call an ambulance.’

The elderly woman was rushed to the emergency room but has since been released, and she credits her own good health for her ability to make it home, where she intends to remain indefinitely.

“I’ve felt very safe in the city, and now, forget it,” she said. “I’m afraid to go out.”
