It’s been over two years since disgraced news anchor Matt Lauer was ousted from the “Today” show after being accused of sexual misconduct, but it’s just been confirmed that he may not be out of the woods yet when it comes to the claims against him, as a new official investigation has been launched into him.

Daily Mail reported that the New York Attorney General has launched an investigation into NBC News over the history of alleged sexual assault at the network, and Lauer is one of the main targets of the probe. Former NBC News anchor Linda Vester also said that another big target of the investigation is Andy Lack, the former NBC chairman who was ousted just this week.

Vester was open about the fact that she was one of the women interviewed for the probe, which has been ongoing for at least six months.

“They wanted to know as many details as I could offer about what Andy Lack’s involvement was in orchestrating a public response against me and a defense or cover-up. He was one of many,” said Vester, who previously accused ex-Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw of sexual assault. She had claimed back in 2018 that on two occasions, Brokaw pinned her against the wall and attempted to kiss her.

Vester said she had an “hours-long” discussion with investigators during which she was also questioned about the over-all coverup culture at NBC.

“I was one of numerous women and men who have been interviewed by the state’s Attorney General Civil Division about alleged violations of the state’s Human Rights law regarding sexual harassment and gender discrimination at NBC News,” she said. “They were very interested because all of us had information about women who had been harassed or retaliated against or both or were discriminated against. We gave interviews either in person or by phone. Mine was January 11.”

“They asked me to re-tell, not just the initial harassment I had experienced but also more importantly, they wanted to know about [chairman] Andy Lack and what I knew about his involvement in retaliation against me and by NBC News once I came forward with my story,” Vester added. “They wanted to know as many details as I could offer about what Andy Lack’s involvement was in orchestrating a public response against me and a defense or cover-up. He was one of many.”

One of the other targets is Lauer, who was fired at the end of 2017 after former staffer Brooke Nevills came forward to claim that he raped her during the Sochi Olympics. NBC executives claimed afterwards that they were not aware of Lauer’s alleged behavior, but reporter Ronan Farrow claimed in his book “Catch And Kill” that network bosses were well aware of Lauer’s alleged sexual misconduct. In fact, Farrow alleged that disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein used his knowledge about Lauer’s proclivities to get NBC to stay silent about his own sexual misconduct reports.

Lauer has tried to keep a low profile since his firing, but this investigation might just thrust him back into the spotlight like never before.
