Former “Fuller House” star Lori Loughlin is facing 45 years in prison for her role in the infamous college admissions scandal, yet those close to her are saying that she is confidant that the case against her will soon be dropped.

Despite all the charges that have been leveled against them, Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli are “more steadfast than ever that they did nothing illegal” as the trial for their case nears in the fall, according to a source close to them.

“Lori’s lawyers feel they have a very strong chance of having the charges dismissed because prosecutors withheld key evidence that [ringleader] Rick Singer was pressured by the FBI to lie in the course of his conversations with Lori,” the source told US Weekly. “It was entrapment, misleading a defendant so that Rick could get a favorable sentence for his role. Rick was the mastermind in all of this.”

Loughlin and Giannulli were indicted last year for allegedly paying $500,000 in bribe money to have their two daughters admitted to the University of Southern California as members of the crew team, even though neither girl had ever rowed before. The couple has pled not guilty to all charges against them, which include bribery, fraud and money laundering.

“Lori’s team is asking that the charges be dismissed entirely or for the recorded telephone conversations to be suppressed, meaning, the jury can’t hear it,” the insider said. “If the judge doesn’t dismiss or suppress the phone conversations, Lori’s lawyers will grill Rick Singer on the stand. Singer could actually become a witness for the defense even though he has been cooperating with the feds.”

The source went on to say that though Loughlin and her team are hopeful that the charges will be dropped, they are still ready for a trial, which is currently set to take place in October.

“Prosecutors are compelled to call Singer to the stand, and if they don’t, Lori’s team will,” the insider explained. “Expect the FBI agents that also worked the case that Rick mentions will also be subjected to increased scrutiny by Lori’s defense team.”

Singer has been accused of collecting $25 million from parents for his fake charity, and he pled guilty to the federal charges against him last year. Though he has yet to be sentenced, he is reportedly facing 65 years behind bars.
