An Indiana man just did something truly incredible to honor healthcare workers on the frontlines fighting against coronavirus by painting a 10,686-square-foot American flag in a field just northwest of Indianapolis.

Fox News reported that Justin Riggins took to Facebook over the weekend to show off his project, which took 30 gallons of paint to complete.

“I absolutely love our country and our flag,” Riggins told WTHR. “People need some positivity during the times we are in. I wanted to honor the ones protecting us and our country. A tribute to our frontline healthcare that are keeping us healthy.”

Riggins went on to say that he came up with the idea as a way to honor those who are fighting hard to protect the rest of us from COVID-19. Over the course of two days, Riggins and a few other volunteers spent two hours measuring out the field before taking five hours to paint it.

“I’m just very patriotic and thought how cool it would be to have a huge flag for everyone to see and be proud of,” Riggins explained. “There is also a legacy I’m trying to keep going. My property used to be the former Ropkey armor museum that my friend and mentor Fred Ropkey owned.”

Riggins was referring to Korean War tank platoon commander Frederick Ropkey Jr., who owned and operated a now defunct private museum that housed one of the nation’s largest collections of military vehicles. Ropkey tragically passed away back in 2013.

Photos of Riggins’ flag have quickly gone viral, touching the hearts of Americans everywhere.

“Very cool. There’s so many community-minded Americans really stepping up to help each other. Nice to see,” one social media user commented, with another adding, “What’s not to love about patriots and patriotism!? God Bless America.”

“I think it’s a positive message during a rough time. To anyone with negative comments, I guess negativity is just a way of life for you!” a third user commented.

At times of great uncertainty and fear such as these, our country’s flag is one thing that we should all be able to get behind. God bless Riggins for doing this amazing project, and god bless all American healthcare workers on the frontline of this pandemic!
