Fans were stunned and excited this weekend when it was announced that the daughter of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has joined the WWE. Now, the legendary wrestler himself has broken his silence about the fact that his 18 year-old daughter Simone has officially signed a contract with the WWE.

“She signed her contract with the WWE, it just blows my mind,” Johnson, 48, told late night host Jimmy Fallon . “First of all, I mean, what an honor that my daughter wants to follow in my footsteps. But, more importantly, ‘follow in my footsteps’ sounds cliché, but she actually wants to blaze her own path, which is just so important. She wound up being the youngest signee in the history of the company.”

Fox News reported that Johnson added that Simone had been working towards this goal since she was 16.

“She was working her a– off. Quietly, under the radar, in the ring, getting thrown around, and all the bumps and bruises that go with pro wrestling,” Johnson explained. “She hung in there. I’m very, very proud of her.”

Simone is not only following in the footsteps of her father, she is also following that of her grandfather Rocky Johnson and great-grandfather Peter Maivia, who also were professional wrestlers. Both ended up being inducted into the WWE hall of fame, so Simone has some big shoes to fill!

Rocky unfortunately passed away earlier this year at the age of 75, but he would undoubtedly be very proud to see what his granddaughter is doing.

Simone herself took to Instagram back in February to express her excitement at joining the WWE.

“To the little girl who fell in love with wrestling & said ‘this will be my life one day’, this is for you,” she wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of herself in a WWE shirt. “I’m humbled, grateful & ready to work. Let’s do this.”

Simone’s father has managed to make the jump from being a WWE star to being an A-list Hollywood actor appearing in some of the top blockbuster movies each year. We can’t wait to see what his little girl is able to do when she makes her debut with the WWE!
