Queen Elizabeth praised healthcare workers from all over the globe on Tuesday in an open letter to celebrate World Health Day.
“On the occasion of World Health Day, I want to thank all those working in the healthcare profession for your selfless commitment and diligence as you undertake vitally important roles to protect and improve the health and well-being of people across the Commonwealth, and around the world,” the Queen, 93, wrote as she continues to self-isolate at Windsor Castle.
“In testing times, we often observe that the best of the human spirit comes to the fore; the dedication to service of countless nurses, midwives and other health workers, in these most challenging of circumstances, is an example to us all,” she continued. “My family and I send our enduring appreciation and good wishes.”
This came two days after the Queen thanked healthcare workers in her televised address about coronavirus.
“I want to thank everyone on the NHS frontline, as well as care workers and those carrying out essential roles who selflessly continue their day-to-day duties outside the home in support of us all,” she said. “I’m sure the nation will join me in ensuring you that what you do is appreciated and every hour of your hard work brings us closer to a return to more normal times.”
“We will succeed, and that success will belong to every one of us,” she concluded in her message. “We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return. We will be with our friends again. We will be with our families again. We will meet again. But for now, I send my thanks and warmest good wishes to you all.”
The Queen, who is self-isolating at Windsor with her 98 year-old husband Prince Philip, has already been personally impacted by coronavirus as her 71 year-old son Prince Charles tested positive for it. Thankfully, he has since made a full recovery.
In times of great uncertainty and fear such as these, it’s incredibly comforting to hear words of wisdom from the Queen, who has been through many difficult situations over the years. God bless her for continuing to speak out to give comfort to the millions of people all over the world who look up to her!
