Meghan Markle’s first television interview since she stepped down as a senior member of the British royal family aired on “Good Morning America” on Monday to promote her new Disneynature documentary Elephants.

Daily Mail reported that Markle said that she was “grateful” to be involved in the Disney + project, which she narrated in her first Hollywood role since her marriage to Prince Harry.

“I’m really grateful to have the opportunity to be a part of bringing a story about elephants to life,” Meghan said. “I’ve been very lucky to be able to have hands-on experience with elephants in their natural habitat.”

“When you spend time with connecting with them and the other wildlife, you really understand we have a role to play in their preservation and their safety,” she added. “These creatures are so majestic and at the same time they are so sensitive and so connected. We see in this film just how remarkable they are; their memories are amazing, the close connection of the herd, the protectiveness of their young. I think they’re a lot more like us than they are different.”

Meghan went on to say that she hopes that when fans see the film, they will “realize how connected we all are.”

“If we had more of an awareness about the obstacles we are facing,  I think we’d take care of each other, this planet and animals in a very different way,” she said.

Meghan, 38, spent years working as an actress in Hollywood, starring on shows like “Suits,” before she abandoned her career to marry Harry. The pair officially stepped down as senior royals on April 1 and moved to Meghan’s hometown of Los Angeles, California. The fact that she has wasted no time in taking up this role indicates that she fully intends to resume the acting career that she had before.

It’s so nice to see Meghan back at work again! Regardless of your feelings on her exit from the British royal family, it can’t be denied that she picked a project that everyone can enjoy for her first film role back in Hollywood. If this is any indication of the kind of projects that Meghan will be working on going forward, we can’t wait to see what she releases next!
