Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were just publicly humiliated when hackers took over their website and redirected the link to the Kanye West rap song “Gold Digger.”
Fox News reported that Meghan and Harry confirmed this week that their charity will be named Archewell, and though it has yet to launch officially, an anonymous user has since created the URL www.archewellfoundation.com, which leads directly to “Gold Digger.” Clearly, the royal couple had not taken the time to register a domain for their website name before announcing their charity, and they are paying dearly for it now.
Though the website was taken down by Thursday morning, social media users have still been blasting Meghan and Harry for their carelessness in not registering the domain.
“Harry & Meghan’s website hit by trolls redirecting it to ‘Gold Digger’ this is just too good,” one social media user commented. “But it wasn’t trolls, they stupidly, but not surprisingly, forgot to register the website. Idiots.”
“Keep digging Meghan, that hole might just take your ego one day,” a second user added.
This comes after Meghan and Harry were widely panned for announcing the name of their charity while the world continues to struggle with the coronavirus pandemic. The couple defended their actions by saying that they only announced the name after The Telegraph uncovered documents came upon documents filed to launch their charity.
“Like you, our focus is on supporting efforts to tackle the global Covid-19 pandemic but faced with this information coming to light, we felt compelled to share the story of how this came to be,” the couple said in a statement. “We connected to this concept for the charitable organization we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name. To do something of meaning, to do something that matters.”
On April 1, Harry and Meghan ceased to be senior members of the British royal family months after announcing their decision to step down and move to North America. Though they initially moved to Canada, they have since relocated to Los Angeles, California, where they are said to be looking at homes in the ritzy area of Malibu.
