We had previously reported that country music star Blake Shelton had pledged to grow out his signature mullet again while in quarantine amidst the coronavirus pandemic. On Monday night, however, his girlfriend Gwen Stefani ended up giving him a little trim during an interview with Jimmy Fallon of the “Tonight Show,” and the resulting haircut looked more like a faux hawk than a mullet!

As Shelton was interviewed by Fallon, he explained that he had a tight schedule for the day on his Oklahoma ranch with Stefani and her children, adding that one of the things on the to-do list was a haircut.

“This interview – I wanted to do it, but we actually have a schedule that we already had lined up for today and I don’t think we can put it off any longer,” Shelton, 43, said as Stefani could be seen holding hair clippers.

Stefani, 50, told Fallon that she needed to help Shelton “grow out his mullet,” trimming the sides of his hair while he continued to ask questions. Shelton said that he is a proud supporter of the charity MusiCares, which aims to help those in the music industry impacted by the coronavirus. He also discussed what impact the pandemic will have on his job on “The Voice.”

“What’s scary is we’re going to have to do ‘The Voice’ in some fashion like this, because obviously, the live shows are coming up here in just a matter of weeks,” Shelton said. “Especially in LA, we’re not going to be ready to have events again. So it’s going to be crazy. We’re going to have to coach (virtually). It’s just going to have to work out this way. It’s going to be nuts.”

Meanwhile, Stefani continued working on Shelton’s hair, attempting to carve a “J” and an “F” into the sides at one point.

“How’s the mullet? Is the mullet getting long in the back?” Shelton asked Fallon, who responded, “Not long enough, man. You can get it longer. But it’s getting close.”

Despite the fact that this pandemic has forced him to cancel his tour, Shelton appears to be enjoying life on his ranch with Stefani and her kids.

“It’s like Little House on the Prairie out here,” he said. “She makes [sourdough] bread. I’ve been building a fence and gardening. We’re pretty self-sufficient out here…It’s me and a bunch of Stefanis.”

By the time Stefani was done, Shelton’s hair looked more like a faux hawk than a mullet, but it still looked pretty darn good if you ask me!
