Country music legend Dolly Parton is still in mourning for her good friend and fellow singer Kenny Rogers, who passed away last month at the age of 81. Last night, Parton stepped up to pay tribute to Rogers while self-isolating at her home amidst the coronavirus by performing on “CMT Giants: Kenny Rogers,” a benefit for the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund.

Rolling Stone reported that Parton performed on the special that also included such famous faces as Vince Gill, Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires, Gavin DeGraw, Jennifer Nettles, Lady Antebellum, Lionel Richie, Michael McDonald, Randy Houser and Rascal Flatts.

“Kenny Rogers transcended genres and generations with his musical versatility, legendary collaborations, and timeless appeal, and we’re honored to pay tribute to his legacy,” said Margaret Comeaux, CMT executive producer. “Particularly in these turbulent times, we’ll stop and take a moment to allow the memory of our dear friend Kenny to bring us together and inspire us to lend support to those in the music community who are most in need.”

Parton, who collaborated with Rogers many times throughout their respective careers, honored him by performing his hit song “Sweet Music Man.” Clad all in white and surrounded by candles, Parton gave a truly emotional performance in honor of her late friend. Be sure to have some tissues handy before you watch this one!

Social media users were quick to praise Parton for the stirring performance.

“Wow, no words just a sad heart listening to a heartfelt tribute,” one social media user commented, with another adding, “With all the fear and heartache in the world tonight leave it to Dolly to sing us ‘Home’ ….what a wonderful tribute to the Music Man..”

“That is beautiful Dolly I can hear the tears in your voice while mine are flowing down my face,” a third user wrote. “Thank you for singing this song.”

This comes after Parton posted a video the morning after Rogers’ death last month in which she broke down as she showed her fans a photo she has framed of the two of them together.

“I just happened to have this picture when I woke up this morning of us,” Parton said. “I walked out and thought, ‘Well, maybe I’ll hold that up for everybody,’ so I know you’re sad as I am but God bless you Kenny. Fly high, straight into the arms of God. And to the rest of you, keep the faith.”
