Yesterday, we reported that President Donald Trump had announced that the United States will not be paying for the security of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, who just both moved here from Canada.

Now, the couple has broken their silence to respond.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have no plans to ask the U.S. government for security resources,” a representative for Meghan and Harry told Fox News.

“Privately funded security arrangements have been made.”

This comes after President Trump made the announcement on Twitter that American taxpayers will not be funding security for the couple.

“I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen & the United Kingdom,” Trump tweeted on Sunday afternoon. “It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada. Now they have left Canada for the U.S. however, the U.S. will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!”

Trump tweeted this after a source told People Magazine that the couple had moved out of the home they were staying in on Vancouver Island and were now looking at places to live in Los Angeles, which is where Meghan grew up.

“They love being in Canada, but they are looking at houses in L.A., too,” a friend close to the couple said.

“They’ll likely have houses in both places.”

Canada had also said that they would not be paying for the couple’s security, should they decide to remain there permanently.

When stepping down as senior members of the British royal family back in January, Harry and Meghan had expressed plans to leave the United Kingdom and make their home in North America.

It remains to be seen how these security developments will end up impacting those plans moving forward.
