Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got some bad news today when it was revealed that they will have to foot the bill for their own security in the United States. This will undoubtedly come as a huge disappointment to the couple, as they were hoping that their security would be funded by American taxpayers.

Fox News reported that President Donald Trump took to Twitter today to let the world know that Harry and Meghan will have to pay for their security themselves after it was reported that they had moved to Los Angeles, California this month.

“I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen & the United Kingdom,” Trump tweeted. “It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada. Now they have left Canada for the U.S. however, the U.S. will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!”

Though Harry and Meghan initially moved to Canada after stepping down as senior members of the royal family earlier this year, it was reported this month that they had left Canada and were “looking at houses” in the Malibu area of Los Angeles.

“They love being in Canada, but they are looking at houses in L.A., too,” a friend of the couple told People Magazine. “They’ll likely have houses in both places.”

This comes weeks after the Canadian government also said that they would not foot the bill for Harry and Meghan’s security, which may have been what prompted the couple to move to the U.S. so suddenly.

“As the Duke and Duchess are currently recognized as Internationally Protected Persons, Canada has an obligation to provide security assistance on an as-needed basis,” the Canadian government said in a statement to Canadian Broadcast Corporation at the end of February. “At the request of the Metropolitan Police, the RCMP has been providing assistance to the Met since the arrival of the Duke and Duchess to Canada intermittently since November 2019. The assistance will cease in the coming weeks, in keeping with their change in status.”

Harry and Meghan will no longer be recognized as Internationally Protected Persons at the end of March, which is when they will officially lose their senior royal status.
