New Jersey Country Club Sues Waiter Accused of Pouring Red Wine on Woman’s Hermès Bag

Accidents happen — especially in the food and beverage industry.

Usually anger dissipates with certain accommodations such as comping the bill or remaking something — but some things are just unfixable and unbelievably costly to patch up.

Maryana Beyder was out to eat with her husband at Alpine Country Club in Demarest, New Jersey back in September 2018. She claimed in a lawsuit that a waiter, whom she identified as “John Doe,” spilled red wine “all over” her, her husband and her pink Hermès bag.

Her lawsuit was reportedly filed against the country club and waiter for damages as well as the club’s “negligent hiring” of the waiter who supposedly spilled the wine.

Beyder’s lawyer Alexandra Errico told the North Jersey Record, “Whoever the waiter was proceeded to pour red wine and didn’t stop.” She added, “Poured it all over her. Poured it all over her husband. And poured it all over a very expensive Hermès bag.”

Apparently Beyder was in contact with Alpine Country Club for almost a year trying to resolve the situation, but says they went silent. Her insurance company also failed to help her, not believing a purse could cost so much money.

Just to clarify, Hermès bags really do cost a lot of money. Depending on the type of leather and exotic skin used for a Hermès Birkin bag they can range from $10,000 to upwards of $300,000.  There are people who actually collect these bags — they’re gorgeous, but pricey.

Here’s where things get gross — the New Jersey country club that was sued has recently filed its own lawsuit — against the waiter.  The restaurant is accusing the waiter of damaging the roughly $30,000 purse.

Errico told NJ.com: “They did not need to sue their own employee. There was zero necessity. It’s just bad business.”

Terrible taste! Can you imagine being the waiter?
