Gender reveal parties go wrong all the time, but this one took a turn for the worst.

A woman died on Saturday in Knoxville, Iowa after an explosion at a gender reveal party.

Investigators determined that an explosion during the gender reveal announcement caused the woman’s death. Debris from the explosion flew through the air, reportedly hitting the victim and severely wounding her.

A woman in Iowa is dead after sustaining serious injuries during a gender-reveal announcement Saturday, the Marion County Sheriff's Office confirmed.

The Marion County Sheriff’s office says the explosion happened at a home in central Iowa around 4 p.m. Saturday during a gender reveal party. Deputies arrived at the home in Knoxville to find the 56-year-old woman dead.

Officials haven’t released any further details about the incident.
