A photo is going viral this week showing that there really are still good people in the world doing kind things for others.

Officer Joe Holt with the Independence Police Department in Missouri was sitting in his car eating lunch this week when he witnessed a compassionate teenager using his jacket to shield an older woman from the rain as he walked her to her car. When the teen saw the woman walking in the rain with no protection, he jumped out of his mom’s car, took off his own jacket, and used it to shield her.

Joe was so impressed by what the teen did that he snapped a photo before walking over to the boy’s mother to thank her for raising such a caring young man.

“She teared up pretty good. It was a moment between the both of us,” Joe said. “I mean I teared up a little bit. I’m a parent as well. So, I told her that I was very impressed with him and that he should be proud.”

Joe posted the photo to his police department’s Facebook page, and it quickly went viral, with people all over the world praising the boy for what he did. The officer is now hoping that the boy and his mother will reach out to him after seeing the post so that he can take them to dinner.

“This kid cared less about race, religion or color. The only thing this kid cared about was being kind,” Joe wrote. “Kiddo, if you see me on the street again, this guy owes you a dinner. You ever need anything, I will come running to ya.”
