The best teachers go above and beyond to help their students succeed in any way that they can, and Mrs. Clarkson is definitely one of these teachers. She decided to take up teaching in the first place because she cares a lot about children, and she’s been doing anything she can to help her students since beginning her career.

Mrs. Clarkson knows that every student has their own unique set of skills, and some of their talents are things that the SATs do not test for. One of her students is Ben Twist, who happens to have autism, which made his chances of excelling on the SATs slimmer. Despite this, Mrs. Clarkson saw him studying hard for the exam.

Sadly, after taking the test, Ben was devastated to see that he had failed in every subject. However, afterwards, Mrs. Clarkson sent Ben a letter that totally changed his outlook on his situation, and her words left his mother in tears.

Mrs. Clarkson began by congratulating Ben on how hard he studied and on maintaining a positive attitude throughout the process. She then continued:

“A very important piece of information I want you to understand is that these tests only measure a little bit of you and your abilities,” she wrote. “They are important and you have done so well, but Ben Twist is made up of many other skills and talents that we at Lansbury Bridge see and measure in other ways.”

Mrs. Clarkson then reminded Ben of all the things he succeeds at that aren’t reflected in the SATs:

“Other talents you have that these tests do not measure include: -Your artistic talents, your ability to work in a team, your growing independence, your kindness, your ability to express your opinion, your abilities in sports, your ability to make and keep friends, your ability to discuss and evaluate your own progress, your design and building talents, and your musical ability. “

“We are so pleased that all of these different talents and abilities make you the special person you are and these are all of the things we measure to reassure us that you are always making progress and continuing to develop as a lovely, bright young man,” she concluded.

The letter has quickly gone viral, touching the hearts of people all over the world. It has served as a reminder to everyone that one test does not define who we are, which is something that people of all ages would do well to remember!
