Just before Father’s Day earlier this year, six inmates and an officer overseeing them were working at the Polk County Cemetery mowing the grass. Suddenly, the officer complained that he was not feeling well, and he was on the ground unconscious seconds later.

Many would think that the inmates would have taken this opportunity to run away and escape, but this is not what happened at all. Instead, they did not hesitate to help the officer out.

The inmates immediately ran over to the officer, with one of them stripping off his gun and vest as they tried to revive him in any way they could. Another inmate grabbed his phone and began calling 911.

Luckily, paramedics were able to rush to the scene and save the officer’s life. After being rushed to the hospital, the officer received treatment and was able to go home that very same day. The story has quickly gone viral, with people all over the world praising the inmates for doing the right thing and saving the officer’s life.

“I hope this eases the stereotype that not everyone in jail or prison is bad,” one social media user commented. “There are some awesome people locked up. They just got caught in a bad situation at some point in their life.”

We could not agree more! Since this was a sign of good behavior, the inmates each had their sentences reduced by one-fourth. We applaud them for showing the world that even people who make mistakes in life can still become heroes by doing the right thing.
