A Montana grandmother has come up with an ingenious, hilarious way to stop drivers from speeding near her home.

Patti Baumgartner of Polson loves taking her grandchild out on walks near her home, but recently, she’s become disturbed at just how many drivers are speeding in the area. Wanting to make sure her grandchild would be safe, Patti took matters into her own hands and sat down on a chair alongside South Finely Point while holding a hair dryer in her hand. Patti proceeded to point the hairdryer at passing cars, making them think that she had a speeding gun!

“We were talking about maybe something would slow the cars down. So, we decided to put me in a chair and I guess use the hair dryer as a speed thing,” Patti explained.

Patti’s son Tim snapped a photo of her in position and posted it on Twitter in the hopes of getting the attention of the Montana Highway Patrol. This is how it came to the attention of Trooper Noah Pesola, who got a huge kick out of it.

“I thought it was hilarious, I think that we have a speed issue in Montana and I thought it was a great creative idea for the public to try and combat that a little bit without making people too upset,” the trooper said.

In fact, Noah liked the idea so much that he made Patti an “honorary Montana trooper.”

“It’s not an official (title) or anything like that for the honorary trooper, which is kinda what I called it,” he said. “I didn’t know what else to do for her, when she’s doing something for the community and like she says she’s got grandkids in the area so she’s doing something for her grandkids’ benefits. The best thing I could think of was give her a trooper hat and a badge to make her look a little more official.”

Patti has said that while she is unsure how effective her hairdryer is at stopping people from speeding, she plans to use it again as a speeding gun in the future. Find out more in the video below.
