An unidentified man just put up a sign to thank his neighbors after they came together to save his life.

Alphonso and Deborah Williams were recently watching television in their home in southeast Washington D.C. when they heard a car collision outside. After running outside to see what happened, the couple found an unconscious man sitting behind the wheel of a car that had crashed into a number of parked vehicles.

The man was unresponsive, and as more neighbors showed up to help, he stopped breathing and started to turn blue. After calling 911, the neighbors teamed up to perform CPR as Deborah brought out water for them to stay hydrated in the summer heat.

Deborah said that after an ambulance rushed the man to the hospital, the neighbors all feared that he would not make it.

“Everybody was out there, we were all concerned,” she recalled.

That’s why they were all so relieved when a sign popped up on their street one week later that read, “Good Samaritans of Potomac Ave — you saved my life!”

“I passed out from a heart attack while driving near here,” it continued. “My doctor said your quick, immediate, steady CPR action saved me. Today, I am recovering back home. Forever grateful, Joe.”

Police would not identify the man, but the neighbors said they are just relieved that the incident had a happy ending. They also feel grateful to live in a caring community where people are ready to help one another at any time.
