Fans of Alex Trebek, the legendary host of the gameshow “Jeopardy!,” just announced that he is officially back to work and is “on the mend” following a diagnosis with Stage IV pancreatic cancer.

In a new video posted online this week, the 79 year-old host said that he has returned to the show in order to host its upcoming 36th season, which began filming on July 22nd and is set to premiere on September 9. Trebek seemed in good spirits in the video, which was shot five months after he revealed his diagnosis.

“I’ve gone through a lot of chemotherapy and thankfully that is now over,” Trebek said. “I’m on the mend and that’s all I can hope for right now.”

While Trebek and officials with “Jeopardy!” refused to go into further detail about his health, the host said back in May that he was having a “mind-bogglingly” positive response to his chemo treatments and he was “near remission.”

“The doctors said they hadn’t seen this kind of positive result in their memory,” Trebek said at the time. “Some of the tumors have already shrunk by more than 50%.”

Adding that he cried “happy tears” when he learned the treatments were working, Trebek went on to say that he felt he had an advantage against his cancer because of all the support he was receiving from fans.

“I’ve got a couple million people out there who have expressed their good thoughts, their positive energy directed toward me and their prayers,” he said. “I told the doctors, this has to be more than just the chemo, and they agreed it could very well be an important part of this.”

“I’ve got a lot of love out there headed in my direction and a lot of prayers, and I will never ever minimize the value of that,” Trebek added.
