A group of strangers just came together to give a 4 year-old cancer survivor a very special birthday gift.

Since Whitaker Weinburger has been fighting stage-4 neuroblastoma from the time he was 13 months-old, he has never had the chance to celebrate his birthday with other people. Given the fact that Whitaker has been stable for a year, his parents wanted to make sure that this year’s birthday was extra special for him. When they asked the little boy what he wanted for his birthday, he answered simply by saying that he wanted “100 Bumblebees.”

Whitaker was actually talking about the Transformers character Bumblebee, who he is obsessed with. In fact, whenever Whitaker sees a yellow car on the street, he assumes it’s the heroic robot in disguise!

Knowing that it would be difficult to give a crime-fighting colossus to Whitaker for his birthday, his parents came up with another idea. They took to social media to ask their neighbors and friends to bring their yellow cars to the Weinburger neighborhood in Alexandria, Virginia on the morning of Whitaker’s birthday.

“Does anyone have a yellow car, or connections with yellow cab companies, or is in media, so we can share our story and see if it’s possible to make this happen?” Whitaker’s mom Erin wrote in a Facebook post. “I know this is a crazy idea, but man alive, we want to see Whitaker experience a miracle as big as he is.”

Her post quickly went viral, and before long, people from as far as West Virginia, New York, Washington D.C., and southern Virginia were lining up on the road where the family would walk to preschool that morning. When Whitaker walked outside that morning, he could not believe it when he saw all the yellow cars!

The neighbors who did not have a yellow vehicle put on their brightest yellow clothing and took to the streets to cheer for Whitaker and join the parade. Paramount and Hasbro even heard about Whitaker’s birthday and sent boxes of gifts. Jeremy Levy, who is the voice of Bumblebee in the Transformers films, has also offered to reach out to Whitaker.

The little boy’s family has been completely overwhelmed by all of the support they have received.

“It feels incredible. There’s really no way to describe that feeling. It’s overwhelming how many people have come together,” Erin said. “It’s so heartwarming and exciting.”
