A very old man was laying in his bed dying, and as death neared, he suddenly smelled the aroma of his favorite chocolate chip cookie from downstairs. Gathering all of the strength he had left, the man lifted himself out of bed and made his way out of the bedroom slowly by leaning against the wall. With lots of effort, he managed to force himself down the stairs, holding the railing with both of his hands.

With labored breath, the elderly man leaned against the door and looked into the kitchen. What he saw made him think he was already in heaven!

Spread out on newspapers on the kitchen table were hundreds of chocolate chip cookies. The man wondered if he really was in heaven, or if this was one last act of love from his devoted wife, making sure that he left this earth as a happy man. Gathering the strength for one last big effort, the elderly man threw himself toward the table. With an aged and withered hand that shook uncontrollably, he reached out for a cookie on the table. Suddenly, the dying man was smacked with a spatula by his wife.

“Stay out of those,” she said, “they’re for the funeral.”

LOL! How perfect is that?! Death is no laughing matter, but that does not mean there aren’t some hilarious jokes about it. Sometimes laughing at something as serious as death makes it easier to stomach. Death is unavoidable for all of us, so why not find the humor in it when we can?
