An adorable dog is touching the hearts of internet users everywhere with his real-life Cinderella story after he managed to go from being in a kill shelter to starring in a Disney movie!

It was recently announced that the upcoming live-action version of the classic 1955 film Lady and the Tramp will star 2-year-old rescue dog Monte as The Tramp, and his character will be voiced by Justin Theroux. Meanwhile, Lady is set to be played by a cocker spaniel named Rose and will be voiced by Tessa Thompson. The movie will be debuting on Disney’s streaming service Disney Plus, which will be launched on November 12.

Though Monte is set to be a movie star now, things were very different for him one year ago, when he was just another dog at the Halo Animal Rescue in Phoenix, Arizona. He was brought there by the Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Monte, who was once named Rocky, was one of six dogs surrendered by a family after they could no longer afford to care for them.

“We were very excited to see Monte is going to be a star,” said Heather Allen, the president and CEO of Halo Animal Rescue. “We didn’t learn exactly what they were working on until we saw it come out all over the internet probably like everybody else.”

While there is no official word yet on whether there will be a premiere for the movie, Heather said that Halo would love to be part of it if there is one.

“Not really sure about all the fanfare that goes with that. If there was, we would love to go,” Heather said.
