Josh Haltom, a pastor at the Fork Christian Church in Kingsville, Maryland, recently took to social media to share a story about a little girl’s solo plane ride that has since gone mega-viral.

Last month, Josh found himself on a flight from Baltimore along with a precocious unaccompanied minor. The girl took her own seat since she was traveling on Southwest, which has a policy allowing passengers to choose their own seats while boarding, but nobody else wanted to sit next to her.

“Tonight on my flight from Indianapolis to Baltimore I sat next to an unaccompanied minor who was traveling to Baltimore to see her Mother. With Southwest Airlines open seating anyone could have sat next to her, in fact many people avoided her and her boundless energy during boarding,” Josh began. “But finally the couple you see in the photo occupied the two seats to her right.”

Josh went on to imply in the nicest way he could that the girl was clearly high energy, and that she had made that known to all of the other passengers. Finally, a couple gave in and sat next to the girl.

“Within minutes the young girl began chatting and the couple likely realized this wouldn’t be a relaxing flight…and they just rolled with it,” he wrote.

Josh was so touched that the couple allowed the girl to dominate the conversation for the entire flight.

“As drinks were being served the couple didn’t even get a chance to voice their requests because they were cut off by the young girl stating, ‘I’ll take water with a straw and so will they so we can paint!'” he continued. “And they just rolled with it.”

Most people would not have just “rolled with it,” but this couple did.

“Within minutes the young girl had brought out her Hello Kitty paint sheets and the couple spent the next hour following her instructions- as you can see,” Josh recounted. “As I type this the man next to her is being covered with Marvel stickers. They are on his ears, in his beard, arms, everywhere. And he is just rolling with it.”

For Josh, there was a clear moral to the story.

“Moral of the story: There is good in this world. In fact there is more good than bad in this world if we just open our eyes to it,” he concluded. “There isn’t a script or instruction manual for love. You just have to roll with it.”

We would all do well to be a little more like this couple, and just “roll with it.”
