The cost of college tuition is going up every year, and parents are finding it more challenging to save for their children’s college expenses. Now, children are getting in on the action as well and looking for ways to earn money to pay for their college education.

Jaylin Clyburn, 12, is one of these kids. Earlier this summer, Jaylin started mowing lawns to save money for college, and he had no idea just how much it would pay off for him.

Jaylin decided to start working to save money for college because he “didn’t want to burden” his mom financially with the cost of tuition. How sweet is that?! The child began by posting an ad on Facebook offering his lawn-mowing services, and a man named Joe Lalino decided to hire him. Jaylin spent four hours mowing Joe’s lawn, and during that time, the two became friends.

Joe helped Jaylin make flyers and brought him around town to put them up everywhere, in doors, in newspaper boxes, on car windshields, and anywhere else they could be seen so he could get more clients. Soon enough, the news was reporting on Jaylin, and he was getting tons of business! Believe it or not, one of Jaylin’s new “clients” is the Carolina Panthers!

When head coach Ron Rivera heard how much Jaylin loves the team, and player Cam Newton, he arranged for him to come “work” at the stadium and get a little surprise.

The team was so impressed by Jaylin and his work ethic that they made him a member of the “grounds crew” and teamed up with their sponsor Lowes to gift him with a brand new lawnmower (complete with a Carolina blue handle)! On top of that, Jaylin got an official grounds crew shirt, a hat, and a football signed by his hero, Cam Newton.

Jaylin’s mom said that he “hasn’t stopped talking” about his visit with the Panthers coach since it happened. She added that he plans to continue working throughout the school year “as long as he doesn’t have homework.”

The 12 year-old is already well on his way to paying his college tuition, as he’s saved up over $900 this summer! Find out more about Jaylin’s story in the video below.
