Last week, we reported that Canadian hiker Dee Gallant had blasted a Metallica song to scare away a hungry cougar as she was on a hike with her dog Murphy on Vancouver Island. Now, Dee has gotten the surprise of her life after the band’s frontman paid her a call.

When her initial plans to scare away the cougar failed, Dee resorted to blasting the Metallica song “Don’t Tread On Me” on her phone, which immediately caused the cougar to flee. Afterwards, Dee jokingly told reporters that she hoped to meet Metallica frontman James Hetfield someday so that she could thank him for saving her life. Days later, Dee received a call from an unknown number, and she was shocked to answer and find that it was James!

James called to talk to her and congratulate for surviving her encounter with the cougar. He also sent her a selfie along with the caption, “Thought you might like some confirmation that it was me.”

“I was a little bit lost for words,” Dee said. “The fact that he’s so down to earth and such a great person, I’m very pleased to find that out first-hand.”

“If you had told the 18-year-old me that this would happen, I never would’ve believed it,” she added. “I would’ve just fallen out of my skin with excitement.”

It’s so nice to see that James is just as down to earth and cool as he has always seemed through his music! Find out more about this in the video below.
