Two police officers in Florida who had never met each other just found out that they are half brothers after taking a DNA test.

David Stull, of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and Eric Reynolds, of the Boynton Beach Police Department, met a month ago when David emailed Eric out of the blue to reveal their connection.

“Good morning, my name is David Stull. According to 23andMe, we are half-brothers,” David wrote in the initial email. “I was adopted as an infant and have very little knowledge of my family history, so I have no way of knowing the validity of this.”

David had submitted a sample to 23andMe three years before because he wanted to learn more about his family history and health. On top of that, he said he “was curious about the possibility of unknown relatives, but never imagined this.”

They were stunned to learn that they live just two hours away from each other, and they decided to meet up on July 20. When they came face to face, they “hugged it out” and took a “shot of vodka” to calm themselves down. The two men have the same biological father, who did not know of David’s existence until recently. David explained that he was born in New Jersey to a woman in her teens, and he was then adopted by a “loving” military family.

Eric described meeting his half brother as being “meeting a clone of me.”

“It was overwhelming and exciting and bit of sadness at the same time,” he said. “We’ve been texting all the time. We’re alike in so many ways. I have someone I can talk to, trust as brothers and cops. It feels great.”
