Last year, 16-year-old Michael Wood rescued an 8-year-old boy who had jumped into the deep end of a swimming pool and started to drown. Now, the lifeguard at the Westwood Club swimming pool in Henrico County, Virginia is being hailed as a hero for the second time after saving the life of a 2 year-old boy.

Michael was working his normal shift as a lifeguard recently when he noticed a 2 year-old boy lying at the bottom of the pool’s shallow end. At first, Michael thought the boy was just goofing off, but then he saw another child brush up against him. When the toddler did not react, Michael knew something was wrong, so he took action.

Leaping into the pool, Michael grabbed the boy and saw he was unconscious and not breathing. All of the color had drained from the child’s face, leaving it a frightening shade of pale blue.

In the video below, you’ll see Michael recount how he brought the child back to life.

“His cheeks turned bright red, and color returned to his face,” Michael said.  “It was scary but I said, ‘praise God.’ He started crying and I just started crying too.”

Michael happens to be the grandson of Henrico County Sheriff Mike Wade, who is very proud of his heroic deed.

“[The rescue] tells me a lot about him,” Wade said. “I couldn’t ask for a better grandson. He’s my favorite grandson. Of course, he’s my only grandson.”
