Cat allergies may soon be a thing of the past, as a new vaccine is being touted as being able to get rid of them once and for all!

Those who are allergic to cats experience itchy eyes, rashes on the skin, runny noses, and sneezing when cats are nearby. Thankfully, this vaccine might be able to help.

The vaccine neutralizes the Fed-d1 protein in the cat’s fur, which is what causes allergic reactions. This protein activates histamine in humans nearby, causing them to have an allergic reaction.

This vaccine is a huge deal because getting rid of cat allergies could lead to more cats being adopted. It will also help cat lovers who previously could not own cats because of their allergies.

“Their cats could stay in the households and not need to be relinquished to animal shelters,” researchers said.

Experts are hoping to release the vaccine in three years, and frankly, it can’t come soon enough! The scientists behind the vaccine carried out four separate studies of the vaccine on 54 different cats, and the results were very promising.

“We are very pleased to publish this data which shows our HypoCat™ vaccine is able to produce high levels of antibodies in cats and that these antibodies can bind and neutralize the Fel d 1 allergen produced by the animals,” the scientists said.
