Finn Daly is a 6 year-old boy who has both autism and Down syndrome, and he is completely enamored by the American flag. In fact, his parents say that he sometimes spends hours watching the flags fly in his West Hartford, Connecticut neighborhood.

Recently, Finn was out for a walk with his parents when he became transfixed by an American flag flying from a tree in the yard of Todd Disque. When Todd looked out his window, he was touched to see just how much Finn loved his flag.

Todd wanted to find a way to show Finn just how much it meant to him to see the love he has for our flag. For that reason, Todd went to his workshop and made a small wooden bench inscribed with Finn’s name. Once he had finished it, Todd left it outside in front of his flag for Finn’s family to find. Finn’s parents could not believe he had taken time to create the gift, and they were overcome with emotion upon seeing it.

“I’m crying and my daughter is saying, ‘Don’t cry mom, it’s OK, this is exciting,’” Finn’s mom said. “It’s such a small gesture, but things like this really restore your faith in humanity. Like, there’s still good people out there that want to do kind things for no other reason than just to be kind.”

It seems rare that our flag gets the respect it deserves these days, so we’re glad to see that Finn’s love for it has been rewarded! Find out more about this in the video below.
