A homeless man has been given a second chance at life thanks to a simple act of kindness from an anonymous jogger in New York City.

Earlier this month, 30 year-old Joe Arroyo was sitting on a sidewalk in New York City with a cardboard sign explaining how he was homeless, hungry, and wearing broken shoes. When a man jogging by saw him and his sign, he stopped, took off his shoes and socks, handed them to Joe before walking away barefoot. Joe was stunned by the act of kindness.

“I never thought somebody would come out and take their shoes off and just give them to me,” Joe said. “[He said] ‘I’ve been blessed my whole life, God has been very nice to me, I feel like I should bless you too’ and he took off his shoes and gave them to me. I wanted to hug the guy but a homeless man hugging someone out here is not normal.”

A woman who was sitting in a nearby taxi stopped at a red light was so touched by the exchange that she whipped out her phone to record it, and the video quickly went viral after being posted on social media. Local reporters managed to track down Joe to interview him, and he took this opportunity to express his gratitude for the unidentified man and ask viewers for a job.

As fate would have it, a local entrepreneur saw the interview and contacted reporters so that he could offer Joe a job. This little act of kindness really did change his life forever!
