It’s always important to be a good tipper especially if the waiters serving you do an outstanding job. When one mother recently did this, however, she ended up getting a terrible shock in return for her generosity.

Whitney Anderson is a hardworking mother of three who recently went to a Mexican restaurant with her husband and their kids. The service had been good, so when it came time to pay the bill, Whitney used a credit card to put a $10 tip in a $45.50 meal, tipping above 20%.

When Whitney checked her bank account the next day, however, she was stunned to find that she had been billed $65.50 from her bank. Clearly, the waitress did not think she would notice if she took more money from her, but Whitney was not about to let her get away with this.

Whitney went to the restaurant to speak to the owner, but he didn’t seem to care at first. He finally agreed to give Whitney back the money, but it would take ten business days.

Not stopping there, Whitney demanded that the owner show her the merchant copy of the receipt, as she had not taken the customer copy home with her. It was then that she discovered that someone had filled out the customer copy that she’d left behind, giving the waitress a $20 tip and badly forging her signature. The waitress then threw away the merchant copy and used the customer copy as the receipt.

Whitney was furious about this, so she took to Facebook to alert the world about this scam.

“I’m so angry that a server did this and who knows how many times she’s done this and stole money from customers,” she wrote.

When Whitney’s friends looked at their own recent bank exchanges after going to this restaurant, they discovered the same thing had happened to them. As pressure mounted, the manager finally called up the waitress’s previous employers, and he learned they had all fired her because she was stealing in some way. He then issued a full apology to Whitney and fired the waitress himself.

We can all learn a lot from this story. When going to a restaurant, you should always take the customer receipt with you to ensure that nobody can use it to steal your money. Find out more about this in the video below.
