Charles Womble and Jackie McGee have been dancing together for nearly forty years, as they first partnered up back in 1981. Since then, they have competed in hundreds of dance competitions all over the country and have even been named as members of the Swing Dance Hall of Fame.

Shag is a dance style that was created back in the 1940s in South Carolina, which is Charles and Jackie’s home state. It was originally created as a way to dance in the surf and sand at beach parties. The style has since become so complex that it’s hard to imagine people doing it on the beach!

In the video below, you’ll see Charles and Jackie come out of “retirement” to perform a shag routine at the Grand Nationals Masters Division. It should come as no surprise after watching this that Charles and Jackie have won over 300 competitions and been undefeated for twelve straight years.

The video of their performance has quickly gone viral, being viewed over 2.2 million times.

“I have watched a lot of couples doing the Shag but this is the best of them all…” one person commented. “Their moves are so effortless and smooth… They just glide across the dance floor together and need I add how they compliment each other as well… Bravo to Charlie & Jackie Womble.”

“Really impressive demo of dance. I like any dance that looks smooth,” another user commented. “I teach a few styles and I appreciate the effort that’s gone into their dancing. Well done.”
