An alligator was just caught on camera climbing over a tall fence in Florida, and the footage of the moment has quickly gone viral.

The video, which was shot at the Naval Air Station Jacksonville (NAS Jax) last Saturday, shows the alligator moving from one side of the street to the other in front of stunned bystanders.

“There it goes…over the fence,” said Christina Stewart, who filmed and shared the video online. “Over the fence it went.”

A stunned child could be heard talking in the background as Christina filmed what was happening from her car. Once the alligator had climbed over the fence, it landed safely on the other side.

“As if the prospect of an alligator in your yard wasn’t scary enough…now this. Apparently — they can climb fences,” CBS Miami captioned the video when sharing it online.

Social media users have been left totally shocked by the video.

“Amazing Christina!! I have never seen anything like this before with alligators! Thank you for sharing!” one user commented, with another adding, “I’m screwed. I can’t even climb a fence.”

“I heard that Naval recruitment was on the increase but this is ridiculous,” a third user commented, with a fourth saying, “I want a therapy alligator.. An I demand that I be allowed to take him on a plane.”

There are around 1.3 million alligators in Florida, both in captivity and in the wild, and state officials have warned people to stay fifty feet away from the reptiles when looking at them or taking a photo. Check out the video of this alligator for yourself below.
